Our History

Our History

For more than 130 years, Mutual Savings Bank has grown alongside the communities we proudly serve.

Our story began in 1890 when a group of Franklin business leaders founded the Mutual Building and Loan Association with a shared vision: to help local families achieve homeownership and strengthen the community they called home. From the very beginning, our purpose has been rooted in helping our neighbors build brighter financial futures.

As the needs of our customers evolved, so did we. In 1994, Mutual converted to a state savings bank charter, expanding the products and services we could offer while remaining true to the values that had guided us for more than a century. On October 1, 1994, we officially became Mutual Savings Bank.

Over the years, we’ve grown alongside the communities we serve, embracing new technology and modern banking conveniences while never losing sight of what matters most—personal relationships, local decision-making, and a genuine commitment to our customers and communities.

Today, Mutual Savings Bank proudly serves customers throughout Johnson County and the surrounding communities. Although much has changed since 1890, one thing has remained constant: our belief that strong communities are built by helping people achieve their financial goals.

We’re honored to continue the legacy started more than a century ago—serving our neighbors, supporting local organizations and businesses, and building relationships that last for generations. As we look to the future, our commitment remains the same as it was in 1890: helping our customers, our communities, and one another thrive.

Let’s Bank Together.
